2006 Glaetzer Wallace is a wine greater than the sum of its parts - a fusion of Shiraz and Grenache, which is a typical, traditional blend in the Barossa Valley. Ripe, peppery old-vine shiraz dominates and adds weight, texture and fleshy richness to the palate. The grenache contributes sweet cherry, toffee and earthy characters. Wallace is superb drinking now but will reward careful cellaring for up to five years.
Wine Advocate The 2006 Wallace, tasted from a barrel sample, is a 70% Shiraz, 30% Grenache blend with an identical oak treatment. The 2006 is more structured than the 2005 but they could otherwise pass as identical twins. Hats off to Ben Glaetzer for producing an extraordinary portfolio! The renowned winemaker, Ben Glaetzer, sources all of his fruit for this label from the Ebenezer district in the northern Barossa. Many knowledgeable experts cite this sub-region as the finest in the Valley. Score range: 91-94 Score: 94. —Jay Miller, October 2007.Wine Enthusiast Sweetly fragrant, with hints of white pepper and stone fruit that veer toward cherries and spice on the palate. The silky texture is a treat, with just enough tart acidity on the finish for balance. Drink now–2010. Score: 90. —Joe Czerwinski, November 01, 2007.
