Blackberry, raspberry and violet aromas follow through to a full body, with a massive palate, chewy tannins and a long, long finish. This is a blockbuster, but still full of finesse. Best after 2013.

The 2005 Barolo Rocche is a fresh, vibrant offering that shows the pedigree of this storied La Morra vineyard. Layers of sweet cherries are intermingled with flowers, minerals and French oak as this poised Barolo opens up in the glass. There is plenty of weight and density here to provide balance. The Rocche needs time to come together, but it is a striking wine even at this early stage. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2025.
