Antoniolo Gattinara Osso San Grato 2000
Colored an intense, garnet red, the fruity nose on the 'Osso San Grato' overflows with powerful notes of black cherry, dried rose, and violet, with complexity added by a distinct note of tar. Intensely flavored to match, the full-bodied Gattinara is austere and yet generous, with sweet and velvety tannins balanced by a long finish. Wine Advocate 2000 Gattinara Osso San Grato—Medium translucent ruby. The cask-aged Osso San Grato has long been my favorite of the house’s wines and the 2000 is an outstanding effort. It offers a deep nose of spices, menthol and licorice, with beautiful sweet dark red fruit, notable persistence on the palate and terrific overall balance. With some air this is a good choice for drinking today, and it should age gracefully to age 15. Drink 2006-2015. Score: 91. —Antonio Galloni, January 2006. |
