Densely coloured, almost black ruby red, which develop to garnet with the aging of the wine. Aromatically sensational, intense, with notes of mature fruit and hints of spice and aromas of vanilla transcended from the barriques. Potent, soft and velvety, with a slightly bitter aftertaste.
Serving suggestion: typically served with meat roasts, game and international cuisine
Wine Spectator This is rich and powerful with loads of spice, chocolate and fruit on the nose and palate. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and plenty of new oak. Very New World style, but concentrated and impressive with good balance. This is a new [i]cru[n] from one of Sagrantino's best producers. And one of the best wines I have had from here in awhile. Best after 2007. 6,700 cases made. Score: 91. —James Suckling, December 15, 2004.
Wine Enthusiast There’s no mistaking that Caprai touch. Resin, dark chocolate, coffee bean and new oak in layer after layer from the man who put Montefalco on the enological map. Big on tannins but carefully structured, balanced and lacking the alcoholic burn of some of its contemporaries. Score: 90. —Monica Larner, September 01, 2005.
